In March, I traveled to Baja Mexico with three friends. We drove to Todo Santos, a lovely art community on the Pacific Coast about an hour north of Cabo San Lucas. We visited a jewelry shop specializing in Mexican fire opals owned by Manuel Tamayo, the owner of one the best opal mines in Magdalena, Mexico.
As it turned out Manuel was visiting his store when we stopped by and I purchased a fabulous 8.3 carat opal. I’ve done business with Senor Tamayo at the Tucson Gem show over the past many years, but was unable to attend this year, so the chance meeting in Todo Santos was most welcome. I offer a remarkable collection of Mexican Fire Opals, most of them purchased from Senor Tamayo.
Am interested in a fire opal cabachon with lots of sparkle – 20cm x 15cm x 4-5 cm
Approx what would the cost be?
I bought a fire opal ring in Todos and the opal fell out and was lost.
Hi Jonathan,
I think your measurements are wrong so it is difficult to answer your question. High quality Mexican Fire Opals are rare and expensive. The size, carat weight and intensity of the fire within the opal determines the value of the stone. If you send me a photo of the setting that you have in relationship to a dime, I may be able to help you. Marty
