A couple of weeks ago I attended a party and made a few new friends in the Santa Cruz community. I found myself nibbling on a smoked salmon appetizer, awkwardly trying to dislodge the salmon from between my teeth and talking to a dentist. Lost wax casting is a shared art between dentists and jewelers and we soon found common ground in our conversation. After my 2nd or perhaps 3rd glass of wine, I brazenly asked him if he might have used dental tools that he no longer needed?
He called last week to tell me that he had put together a package of worn (and sterilized) dental tools to give to me. Tonight, I picked up a treasure of old school dental tools that will carry me through the final 20 years of my jewelry career.
Tonight I toast to regular dental check up’s, to my new friends, old school tools and another 20 years of creative wax carving.
