Lost wax casting is a challenging and often an uncertain process. I spent two full days carving the original wax for my Bird of Paradise Pendant but unfortunately the wax did not cast completely. The photo below right is of the original, unpolished casting in sterling silver with the sprue attached. A sprue is the channel through which the molten metal flows to fill the casting. I am grateful that it was only the stem of the flower that failed to cast but I will need to recreate the longer stem of the flower in wax, cast and solder the replacement stem onto the bloom before making the mold. I am still hopeful that I my Bird of Paradise Flower Charm will be blooming by early April.
