Marty Magic is going through transition. Alisha’s family has already moved to Magnolia, Texas and Alisha will soon join them. After returning from buying a house in Texas, Alisha quarantined and is temporarily living with Art and me. We have been working 7 days a week in my Santa Cruz shop; polishing jewelry, doing inventory and ordering supplies for her new Texas studio.
For a year now, because of the pandemic, Alisha and I have worked from our separate Santa Cruz home studios. During this time we could not sit elbow to elbow and design together but we talked many times each day, visited frequently from 6 feet apart and shared the various Marty Magic responsibilities.
Thanks to our loyal customers, our online business has grown and become more than what is comfortable for me to to handle on my own. Alisha will soon take over the majority of order fulfillment from Texas and I will continue to work on special pieces in my Santa Cruz studio. I expect to have more design time in the future. I will miss Alisha and the family terribly but she and I will continue to work together but apart. I see my frequent flyer miles accumulating as I fly between California and Texas several times a year. Alisha promises to fly “home” to help me at a few of our California shows.
Naturally, Alisha is anxious to join her family in Texas and in mid March she will drive there and a new chapter in each of our lives will unfold. In the meantime, Sterling and the kids are in Texas, doing their part to ready the Marty Magic workshop and office for Alisha’s arrival.
The Texas contingency has already weathered many a storm! Literally! Snow and power outages were a challenge but when it snows, make snowmen!
There is a Buddhist concept that essentially says that we suffer because we want things to be different than they are and then we suffer because we want things to remain the same.
We are experiencing the bitter sweet times of transition.
Lots of changes for you and me both in our declining years lol. I know you will miss Alisha and her family. Having Dave and Matt and their families far away, especially during this crazy time is hard. Keep your chin up! Love you 😍.
You and I have weathered many changes and having our families far apart is hard. I’m trying to keep multiple chins up! Wish your mother a happy 103rd Birthday. Remarkable!
Wow! What a bittersweet time. It has been like that for me when my Brother, Bill Anderson moved to South Carolina and then his wife, Arlene suddenly passed and he stayed in S. Carolina.
My purchases from you have been less, but I manage from time to time to enjoy you and Alisha’s designs.
I am sorry for you both; yet excited for the new growth this will bring. Aren’t we grateful for cell phones and limitless plans!!! Video chats, etc.!!! It is my hope to still be able to email you, Marty, on occasion and keep you up to speed with Bill and myself. Ultimately, I encourage you in your growth struggle and wish you all the best. From Jeri Anderson Fuller. P.S. I’ll pass the news on to Bill.
Hi Jeri, I so remember you and Bill and Arlene. Your family were so supportive of my work early on. Thank you for the encouragement as Alisha takes the reins. I don’t plan on retiring any time soon and look forward to having more time to design. Nice that you have a new Bill in your life. Be Well!
One of my kids moved to TX, it is hard not seeing them all the time. Sending love!
It’s going to be hard being so far away. I hope you are managing to stay connected in spite of the miles apart.
Hi Marty, Wow! So much going on for you. I know that when the dust settles both locations will do great. Since I have moved away from the Bay Area, I will miss seeing you at the shows when life eventually returns to normal. I will keep looking online though. wishing you tons of good luck…….. Larry
I hope the Marty Magic transition can be as fulfilling as your move was out of the Bay Area. So happy that you are happily settled in your new life. Distance can make the the heart grow fonder.
Hello Marty, Hope everything works out great for Alisha and her family, and that you can all keep connected virtually. Must be an exciting though stressful time for everyone, and hopefully everything settles out as soon as possible.
If Alisha needs some ideas for setting up here studio, she should take a look at Nerdforge on YouTube. The artist, Martina, painted a large fantasy dragon mural on her workshop wall.
Take care and be well. Hopefully will see you at some shows this year.
Cheers, Ralph, Michiko, Sean, and Scott
Hi Ralph, Changes are hard but also exciting. Alisha is scheduled to drive to Texas this Friday, assuming she and I have finished the inventory and prep for her new shop. She promises to fly “home” for a few fall California shows. We are officially signed up for Mountain View and Sunnyvale. Art and I get our second vaccine today so we are looking forward to more freedom and I hope to visit Alisha and family at their new Texas home/studio by late April. I hope you and the family are happy and continue to be healthy. Marty
Hello Marty,
What a bittersweet time for you and your family indeed! Marty Magic studio in Texas is looking wonderful and ready for new roots to grow and expand into a new region. Wishing you all a safe and healthy journey through this transition time.
Hugs,
Charina
Hi Charina, Thank you for the well wishes. We’re wrapping and packing for Alisha’s big road trip this to Texas. I hope to see you when the dust settles or perhaps at the Sunnyvale or Mountain View show this fall! Be Well, Marty
