Snake Inspiration at Marty Magic

Here at Marty Magic, we have great appreciation, fascination and respect for snakes. As the only child of a field geologist it was only natural that desert reptiles were my playmates. My father would often return from a day mapping the San Andreas fault with a snake, lizard or tarantula in his tin lunch pail. I would enjoy the temporary pet for a day or two and we would release it back into the desert.

Pictured below are some of our best snake encounters!

In 2007, John, Art and I traveled to Bali and Flores, Indonesia. For a price, a charming tattooed man allowed John to hold his boa constrictor. In 2017, ten years later, I took Alisha to Indonesia and we stopped at the Elephant Cave in Goa Gajah, Bali. The same tattooed man was in the square, bartering photos. The price had gone up in ten years but as the AmEx ads used to say, both moments were priceless.

In 2013, John and I spend three weeks in India, mostly the Rajasthan district. India is a magical country brimming with history, art, palaces, snake charmers and warm and generous people.

It’s only natural that I have shared my love of reptiles with my children and grand children. Here are a few fun photos of the Magic Family’s close encounters with snakes.

Stylish and sensuous, the snake has been a jewelry motif throughout the ages and continues to be a big inspiration for Marty Magic  jewelry designs.
