Angel Kitty Ear Cuff Takes Flight

Angel Kitty Ear Cuff

Angel Kitty Ear Cuff

My new Angel Kitty Ear Cuff is ready to take flight in both sterling silver and in bronze. The inspiration for this whimsical Angel Kitty Ear Cuff design fell from the heavens, quite by accident. Alisha was putting away an assorted pile of freshly polished ear cuffs and came into my studio laughing.  The Angel Heart Ear Cuff  and Cat Ear Climber Cuff were stuck together, the wings of the angel heart wrapping up around the cat like a pair of angel wings.  I’ve combined and modified these two ear cuff designs into a new and “Angelic” version of my Cat Ear Climber. Introducing the Marty Magic Throne Dragon Ear Wrap

After nearly 40 hours wax carving, I just completed one of my best and most complex dragon ear wrap designs. This sculptural and very detailed Dragon Ear Wrap soars gracefully down along the curvature of the left ear.

I proudly introduce my Throne Dragon Ear Wrap inspired by customers who are fans of the H.B.O Game of Thrones.

I have been disheartened to create new ear cuff and ear wrap designs because as soon as I do, my best designs are stolen, molded and reproduced in China. The counterfeit Marty Magic designs are poorly cast in a base metal and show up for sale on the internet for considerably less than what I can sell them for.

Please understand that by buying counterfeit copies work you are supporting an illegal industry and undermining the artist or designer.

All Marty Magic Jewelry designs are original, and cast in the U.S.A.

Alisha’s Sugar Glider Charm takes Flight

Alisha’s precious Sugar Glider Charm is now ready for adoption.  I am proud of my daughter’s quick mastery of wax carving and delighted with her new creation.

Some fun facts about Sugar Gliders:

They are marsupials and after birth, navigate into the protection of their mother’s pouch until fully developed.

They can glide up to 150 feet using the membranes between their hands and feet somewhat like a parachute and their long tails as navigational rudders.

Their habitat is in the forests of Australia, New Guinea and Indonesia where they dine on the sweet sap of the eucalyptus, acacia and gum trees with a few juicy insects and small vertebrates tossed into the salad.

They are nocturnal and have opposable thumbs on all four of their hands.

A Toast to Original Moe

This blog is a commemorative to my friend and mentor, Leon Moburg, known to many as “Moe.”  I met Moe in September of 1969 when as a freshman, I entered the University of Redlands. I was a declared art major and Leon Moburg was the department’s ceramic and jewelry instructor and I soon found myself immersed in clay.  Although I took classes from the three other fine art department professors, it was under Moe’s tutelage that I found my niche.

I loved throwing pots as well as creating slab pieces and would spend hours each day in the meditative process of wedging clay and wheel throwing. Continue reading

Alisha’s Littlest Pet Shop Charm Collection

When Alisha was 5 or 6 she would collect and play with the “Littlest Pet Shop” menageries.  She would be entertained for hours with miniature hamster habitrails or a litter of plastic kittens tucked into a plastic basket.  I indulged her in many collectible sets as well as the breathing kinds of pets for her to nurture and love.  Years later, with a little girl and boy of her own, Alisha is creating her own collection of whimsical animal charms.

Pictured here are her original carvings in pink and green wax.  The charms and earring sets will soon be available for sale in sterling silver.  Drum rolls for my talented daughter!

Marty’s Flat Dragon Ring in N.Y. Post’s Game of Thrones fashion article.

On March 26th, the N.Y. Post published the photo of my Flat Dragon Ring in their Game of Thrones inspired fashion photo gallery.

Although I e-mailed the photo editor several other dragon ring photos and dragon ear wrap photos, that were more fanciful and outrageous, they choose to feature my vintage Flat Dragon Ring.  The ring is a classic of mine, a design that I created early on in my career and that is still popular today.

I am disappointed that I was not credited as the artist and the caption simply says “Silver flat dragon ring, $110 at etsy.com”

Snakes Alive!

My new sterling silver Python Snake Pendant has finally hatched.  For those of you interested in the scientific facts, pythons are egg layers but boa’s and vipers give live birth.

HBO Game of Thrones NY Post Article

I was contacted early this morning by a photo editor of the New York Post.  She is working on an upcoming article for their daily TV section about how to dress like characters on the HBO show, Game of Thrones.  She requested images of a dragon ring for the proposed article that may run tomorrow.

Needless to say, Alisha and I flew into high gear and e-mailed her high resolution images of several of rings and ear wraps.  Keep your fingers and toes crossed that they choose to use one of my pieces in the article!

A Custom Cloud Dragon Ring takes Flight

I wear a version of the Cloud Dragon Ring as my wedding ring.  For some years, a special client has eyed my ring and when she found a ruby red stone that she wanted set, I customized the dragon to accommodate her much larger stone.  This ring recently took flight to it’s new owner but I wanted to capture it’s magic before I sent it flying.

The design is a two part ring, the dragon half rests upon a band of clouds and the gemstone is cradled in the curve between the dragon’s protective wings.
